Sumesh Kamballur was born in 1982 in Kasaragod, Kerala. He grew up immersed in the natural beauty of a village near the forest, which heavily influences his creative aesthetic. He pursued professional art studies in India, earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting and Graphic Art from the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvananthapuram in 2006. He later moved to West Bengal to complete his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Painting at the prestigious Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan in 2009.
